Thought on Luke 8:2-3
The mornings scripture was Luke 8:2-3...it's actually quite simple at first glance. Luke tells us that Jesus went on tour of the nearby towns and villages, taking of course the twelve disciples but more so women. Luke tells us explicitly that Mary Magdalene was among them and so was Joanna and Susanna, among other women. Then he adds that the women contributed from their own resources to support Jesus. This struck me as I read the words. With the twelve, Jesus had them leave everything to follow Him. With the women they contributed everything they had. They gave of themselves in a world dominated by the male ego system which in itself put them in peril with the world they were in. They used every resource they had to forward the Kingdom of God. They not only used what was there but I'm sure in true woman fashion did so with vigor and zeal that had them dealing with all of the normal duties that befall a woman and then finding resources beyond to forward the Kingdom. While at the surface those lines seem trivial at best, they really at the dirt level hold a deep value of the dedication of women to Jesus and forwarding the kingdom.
This gives and inspires hope for me. It fuels the drive that was the seed for Women of Hope, and it gives hope for the future for my daughter as she traverses this side of heaven and all that will come to be.
